Ditch the pacifier

A pacifier is a great tool to use for your child when you're out of the house, traveling, or needing your child to take a quick nap to take the edge off because they had a short nap during the day. However, using a pacifier to fall asleep at night is something called a sleep prop.

Why? At night, your child is unlikely to keep the pacifier in their mouth without the assistance of the parent. Meaning the child can't do it on their own. You are the sleep prop who will be popping the pacifier back in to your child's mouth all night long. It is very exhausting to keep going back into your child's room to just look for the pacifier that fell down somewhere in the dark. Your child won't be able to learn independent sleep skills if they use a pacifier to fall asleep at night.
